Voor de een goed nieuws, voor anderen juist weer niet. Zwembad De Hooghe Waerd blijft nog 10 jaar lang bestaan in zijn huidige vorm. Er komt dus de komende 10 jaar geen nieuw zwembad.
Tot 2026 blijft Sportfondsen het zwembad exploiteren voor de gemeente. Met Sportfondsen IJsselstein is afgesproken dat zij tot en met 2026 het gebouw mogen exploiteren. In ruil voor deze lange afspraak zal Sportfondsen in het gebouw investeren. Zo wordt de entree aangepakt, komt er een buitenspeeltoestel en worden de wanden geschilderd en vernieuwd.
In 2015 heeft de gemeente onderzoek gedaan naar de toekomstbestendigheid van het zwembad. Er zijn verschillende scenario’s op tafel gelegd, maar voor geen enkel scenario was er voldoende draagvlak. Daarom is besloten om het contract met Sportfondsen te verlengen.
